Augustus Frederick Cavendish WEBB, Esqr. Captain 17th Lancers who died on the 6th of November 1854 aged 22, at the hospital Scutari from wounds received in the brilliant charge of the Light Cavalry Division on the 25th October 1854, at the memorable Battle of Balaclava. He was attended in the field after falling wounded by Corporal John Berryman, 17th Lancers, Sergeant John Farrell, 17th Lancers and Corporal Joseph Malone, 13th Light Dragoons, all three being awarded the Victoria Cross for their action in removing Webb from the field of battle. On the voyage to the hospital at Scutari, Captain Webb had his leg amputated. He later died two day after having his leg amputated.
It is equally intended as a mark of deep sympathy wit and affectionate respect for every member of his family, by the tenants of his only and elder brother William Frederick Webb, Esqr. Born 14th November 1831, baptised on the 18th July 1832 at Saint Mary-St Marylebone Road, St Marylebone, London. He was the youngest son of Frederick and Mary, nee Sheil of 26 Manchester Square, Westminster, London. This tablet is in St Mary the Virgin Church, Raskelf, Yorkshire.
