Alexander Melville (k/a Sandy) WILSON Lieutenant 203919 Gordon Highlanders, attached to Special Raiding Squadron, (1 Troop). Special Air Service.

Born 2 October 1921 Walter Wilson and Helen Elder Wilson, nee Stalker of 20 Rubislaw Den South, Aberdeen, Scotland. At the time of his death his parents were residing at Old Dover’s House, Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire.

Killed in action on Operation Devon, 6 October 1943 aged 22

At rest Termoli, Campobasso, Molise, Italy. Commemorated on the Cassino Memorial, Italy.

Brother of Sub-Lt John Francis Wilson who was killed in action 30 January 1942 aged 22

There is an excellent description of what he was up to in Italy in a book called “SAS in Italy. 1843-1943 Raider in Enemy Territory.”
