Graves of those who died, at rest in Pembroke Military Cemetery, Malta. On the evening, of Tuesday the 10th October 1961 at 7-30pm a Hastings transport aircraft of the Royal Air Force crashed broke in half and burst into flames as it was taking off from the at the El Adem Air Force base in Libya killing and injuring men of the Malta Fortress Squadron, Royal Engineers. Two British servicemen also died 22 soldiers survived, although several were badly injured. Their bodies were flown back to Malta for burial, and the funeral took place on Friday the 13th at Pembroke Military cemetery for the following: There was an RAF A/Sgt J M Hughes who survived the crash but died trying to save soldiers in the plane.
