1 ton armoured humber pig

Originally introduced into service as a general purpose truck, they were soon armoured to provide an interim armoured personnel carrier until the Saracen was introduced. They were then withdrawn in the late 1960s.

When the security situation in Ireland deteriorated in the late 1960s they were brought back into service. This time they were modified with additional armour, smoke grenade launchers and 'bull bars' for urban disturbances.

It is powered by a Rolls Royce engine developing 160hp and a top speed of 45 mph. Because of the added weight to the vehicle they used to wallow on rough ground and then gained their popular name 'Pig'. The 'Pig' had a two man crew and carried 6 - 8 men.
