In remembrance of Metropolitan Police Sergeant Matt RATANA, killed on duty
Sgt RATANA was shot by a prisoner being brought into his custody office, Sgt Ratana was checking the suspects temperature when the suspect drew a firearm and shot him in the chest before turning the gun on himself.
PLEASE KEEP THIS THREAD AS A REMEMBRANCE TO SGT RATANA
"Big in stature. Big in heart. A lovely man, a much respected police officer highly respected by his colleagues - he gave 29 years of his life to the public of London"
Tributes paid tonight to our murdered colleague Sgt Matt Ratana.
He was 54 years old and joined the Metropolitan Police in 1991. Originally from New Zealand, he leaves a partner and an adult son from a previous relationship.
Ken Marsh, Chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation, said: “It is utterly devastating news about the murder of our colleague Sgt Matt Ratana. Colleagues across London are in shock and sick to their stomachs at the nature of his death.
“All our thoughts - and that of all our members - are with Matt’s family, friends and close colleagues at this time.
“We and all members of the Police Family across the country are all utterly heartbroken at this news.”
