WALTER MARTIN KEENE
is honoured on Panel 34E, Line 29 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Walter was the son of Walter E. Keen and Angeline V. Keene, the dear brother of Ethel Keene all of Millington. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps on May 23 1967 in Detroit and in Vietnam was serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, 3d MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

During the month of December the Battalion was located at Camp Evans in Thua Tien Province providing security for the camp and several facilities. Company A had been heli-lifted into a blocking position in the vicinity of the Luong Mai village complex. After several days of searching and with their mission completed, on December 30, the Marines began sweeping southeast. During their movement towards a designated location the Marines encountered enemy mortar and sniper fire PFC Keene was wounded and evacuated to the NSA Station Hospital in DaNang where he died on January 11 1968 from multiple fragmentation wounds he had sustained.
