James Charles Walters. Acting Master at Arms 113748. Royal Navy.
Born 04 January 1854 at East Stonehouse, Devon to James Charles and Eliza Walters, nee Tippett
1861 with his widowed mother and sister, Sarah at 15 Quarry Street, East Stonehouse.
1871 aged 16, he was Boy 1st Class in the Royal Navy on ship HMS Foudroyant, gunnery, moored in Hamoaze, Plymouth
1881 Ship’s Corporal on HMS Griffon, at sea between North America and West Indies. Latitude 24.20. N. Longitude 61.49 W
1891 Ships Corporal 1st Class on HMS Britannia, 1st Class Training ship, moored in Dartmouth Harbour.
He married in 1891 Mariam Pauline Easterbrook in Totness, Devon, she died in 1907, leaving two children..
He died on the 30 August 1893 from an intestinal obstruction., leaving his wife and two children.

He transferred to the Royal Navy in 1870 from Royal Marines. No record found for the period he served in the Royal Marines.
During his period in the Royal Navy his served on nine different ships, some ships he served on twice. His last ship which he joined 19 May 1891 as Acting Master-at-Arms was moored in the Grand Harbour, Malta when his reported sick. He was taken to Bighi Naval Hospital, Kalkara where he died on the 30 August 1893 from an intestinal obstruction. He was laid to rest in Bighi Naval Cemetery, which was next to the hospital. Between 1966 and 1967 all the interments were removed to Capuccini Naval Cemetery . He was re-interred into a mass grave, No 849 and 851, on the 25 March 1967 The name of his last ship was unreadable
