    I, Popeye, was aboard USS Hancock (CVA 19) from August '74 to August '75. This song by Elton John was heard often on the ships radio station. It was the #1 tune at that time..Spring of '75.. And for all of 1975. I had not heard the song for a long time then one Saturday we were in a consignment store and "Philadelphia Freedom" by Sir Elton John was blaring on the stores radio...man that tune brought back some serious memories of Fightin Hanna, Operations Eagle Pull and Frequent Wind....in April 1975...in a Navy far, far away.

    We called her Fightin' Hanna she was the Queen of the Sea...damn that was nearly forty two years ago...>> 29 April 1975.

    Philadelphia Freedom by Sir Elton John.

    I always like that Bon Jovi tune. I use to hear that frequently playing on the juke box when I was a part time enlisted club bouncer in '87 & '88 at NAS Miramar.

    When I served aboard USS John F Kennedy (CVA 67) in '72 cruisin' the Mediterranean this is the rock song that was heard with regularity through out the ship.

    Rock & Roll by Led Zeppelin. Friggin' awesome..

    I think one of the greatest Soul/R & B ballads of all time was "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay " by Otis Redding...Awesome

    I remember this song "My Boyfriend's back" by the Angels..circa 1963... They were a white all girl group that imitated very well the black all girl groups sound of the early 60s. Give it a listen..

    One of my favorite movies of all time is "Casablanca"(1942) with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. My favorite scene was when the Free french sing Le Marseilles....the French National anthem;

    While I'm no a fan of the orginal "Top Gun" movie..lots of inaccuracies...I do enjoy the opening of the film because it is not contrived. This is what it is like..period.

    Gotta luv the vintage aircraft..Tomcats and Corsair IIs.

    Kick the tires and light the fires!
