A Ministry of Defence Police officer on duty with an SA80 L85A1 assault rifle, c1996. The weapon was used in the Special Escort Group.
The Special Escort Group or SEG are a specialised unit of the Ministry of Defence Police. It is primarily responsible for the movement of all nuclear weapons and Defence Special Nuclear Material within the United Kingdom.
The Ministry of Defence Police no longer uses the SA80 as their standard firearm; they have transitioned to using the Heckler & Koch MP7 and other weapons. Previously, the SA80 was part of their arsenal, but it has been replaced to better suit their operational needs.
