A Belgian in Scotland in the winter time? :-) Drink what you like, I say!

We need winter warmer as it’s cold AF these days. While looking good, the beer Colin is drinking would be more fitting in summer.

Had a Kasteel Rubus, which is made of Framboise (Rasberries). Normally fruity beers are a no go for me but it’s Belgian and there are well balanced and crafted. Enjoyed it.

Back again , Hoped to be at holy loch getting some LE Nightscapes alas not to be due to the windy conditions .

A few more bottles of Rye kicked: One Basil Hayden… oh, uh, that was bourbon. Well, a Whistle Pig 5 -Year Rye. The 50.00 dollar one which someone gifted me for my birthday and then a couple bottles of George Dickel Rye.

As far as beer lately? An Harp, two Smithwicks, a couple Pacificos….. As far as local brew? A Bear Island amber and a chocolate stout, from the keg!

Got a bottle of Wigle Reserve while visiting Pittsburgh. They make it right there. A fancy rye whisky, balanced and not harsh. Perhaps a bit too smoove for me!

:-)

I’m definitely strange in that it’s quite balmy this summer and drinking an Irish Imperial stout; 11% abv. Tasty stuff, nicely crafted and a bit onerous. Not one and done. Will buy again:

I love the classic and traditional Irish breweries readily available but this one is what’s referred as “craft”… goodo.

Top drawer .. Nae horrible aftertaste like some beers i've had over the years , And tonight after a pint of innis n gunn already ..just waitin on a pint of worthingtons to settle ..1.99 a pint in St john Moore on Argyle St

Jesus christ, who drinks worthingtons in this day and age! So many non mass produced beers available my man!

Distribution here has become a bit redundant for my beverage of choice and have also tapped off on it too. The usual Belgians I’m still drinking but really can’t be bothered to go out of my way for steep craft beers.

Inflation be damned!

I had Duvel earlier with lunch (chicken, rice and onions)

Due to my histamine intolerance, alcohol is a real problem for me today. When I drink a normal beer, I look like a chameleon after a few minutes. I get red spots all over my body. My ears get hot and my skin starts to tingle as if I were sitting in an anthill... Strangely enough, I've noticed that this doesn't happen with rum. Although it's also alcohol that has been aged in barrels for years, it doesn't have the same effect. I've tried a few different kinds now. And every 3-4 weeks, I treat myself to a finger's width in a glass. That doesn't seem to bother my body too much, and at least I get to enjoy something, since this condition means I have to avoid anything that's aged. Ham, cheese, pickled foods, seafood, etc.

These are my Favorite Spirits for now:

Not that I know of, but the fact that my pancreas is only working at 50% capacity probably contributes to it...

Histamine is produced in everything that matures/spoils, e.g., mature cheese, wine that has been stored for a long time.

However, there are also things in nature, such as tomatoes and strawberries, that produce histamine as they grow.

The reactions to this are very individual, though. What almost kills one person doesn't bother another at all, and vice versa.

Over the years, I've noticed that beer and alcohol in particular are problematic. I can drink non-alcoholic beer, by the way...
