Seoul (CNN)Warplanes from four countries faced off Tuesday in a chaotic and unprecedented confrontation above a small, disputed island off the coast of South Korea and Japan.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff issued a statement claiming they had fired more than 300 warning shots at a Russian A-50 command and control military aircraft early Tuesday morning after it had twice violated the country's airspace, the first such incident between the countries.
Moscow furiously denied Seoul's account of the encounter, claiming that South Korean military jets had dangerously intercepted two of its bombers during a planned flight over neutral waters.
But in a statement Tuesday afternoon, Japan's Ministry of Defense backed up South Korea's claims, saying the A-50 had flown over the islands and that Tokyo had scrambled fighters to intercept.

If they can actually get one of their planes up and running? Close to Zero, I doubt China and Russia would want to go there with South Korea and Japan.

eh , the north korea is more then able to keep they fleet of airplane , you forget who are they backer ( china ) , one will be pretty stupid to think low about the north Koreans military not to mention they have the dragon backing , china always been protect of the Korean , we see how Chinese come to the Korean aid when japan invade them in 1400s , then again in qing dynasty and then during Korean war , korea is like a buffer state of them , the Chinese like to keep buffer along they border ( that why they didn't support our plan to united Vietnam , same for they didn't support north korea plan to invade south korea and that why they support rebel group along Myanmar/china border even the Myanmar are Chinese close partner , the Chinese still supply the rebel with manpad , weapon and even helicopter )
