That seems… highly unlikely. The last B-2s were assembled almost 2 decades ago. More likely to buy extra B-21s.
Don't underestimate uneducated stupidity paying out of other people's wallet.

I realize Gun Jesus does not normally fit into this thread. But in this case his critique of the new 6.8x51mm and the M7 rifle seems appropriate.

Long story short WTF is US DoD DoW thinking? Range and armor penetration.
But drones exist.
Ian gives some historical context, both recent and further back, on what direct fire engagement range is even possible.

My own lazy theory as a Grand Marshall (got promoted again) of Combined Armchair Forces Executive (CAFE):
The M7 will take the new prize as shortest serving general issue rifle. And voila it is the new M-14 to M-21 DMR. History does repeat repeat itself.

Except the AR platform lends itself to the DMR role unlike the M-14 so less money should theoretically need to be wasted on redesignating it. The M-21 was a bodge job of the M-14 was a bodge job of the M-1. There is nothing wrong with the M7's dad (Sig Spear LT).

80,000 psi should be ok for a DMR's lower round count. The issue is with it being brought to the M250 as well. I'm sure the parts are more durable, but the rifling is still going to get chewed up.

If the army wants increased range, lethality and effect against body armor without upending the entire logistics chain they should go with the 77gr. and the rifle a Sig Spear LT, but that wouldn't be flashy enough for the glamour kittens in procurement.

And since Sig has coincidentally won the procurement for the pistol, the rifle, and the squad (section?) automatic.

Well, these aren't the droids we are looking for, move along, move along.
