Boy, those F-18s are really jammed in there!

You are correct. I noticed that too. The photo is looking from aft to forward(I think) These are hangar bays two and three. The fire doors to hangar bay one are closed.

If my memory serves me correctly on all the ships I served there was usually a "Fire Lane" down the middle of the hangar deck. A lot easier to move that way.

I was thinking along similar lines @bdpopeye , that would be one hell of a place on earth in a fire and no direct access through the hangar except "over and under" ;)
