The Syrian National Army
The Syrian National Army (SNA), formerly known as the Free Syrian Army (FSA), is a coalition of armed opposition groups operating in Syria. Established initially as the FSA in 2011, it was formed by defected Syrian military personnel and civilian fighters to oppose the Assad regime. In 2017, the group rebranded as the SNA, aligning under Turkey’s influence and receiving support to counter both Syrian government forces and PYD/YPG-led groups in northern Syria. The SNA aims to create an opposition-controlled zone, focusing primarily on Turkish-backed operations. It consists of various factions, including former FSA units and other Syrian opposition groups.
