Post links to usable Military image sources here.
By usable I mean Public domain or licensed images

Here is an example to get us started

Imperial war museum collections search
http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/search

Here is the license that must be read before posting any image and must be linked to the image and should include a link to the website.

This item is available to share and reuse under the terms of the IWM Non Commercial Licence.

license http://www.iwm.org.uk/corporate/privacy-copyright/licence

They even provide the BB code to embed the image to the forums/articles or blogs like so (just right click the image at the IWM site and you will see where the BB code can be obtained)

PHP:
[url=http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205144890?cat=photographs][img]http://media.iwm.org.uk/iwm/mediaLib/451/media-451147/large.jpg?action=e&cat=photographs[/img][/url][url=http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205144890?cat=photographs]HMS MAURITIUS, A FIJI CLASS CRUISER AT SEA. AUGUST 1942.. © IWM (A 11312)[/url][url=http://www.iwm.org.uk/corporate/privacy-copyright/licence]IWM Non Commercial Licence[/url]

This code produces this

HMS MAURITIUS, A FIJI CLASS CRUISER AT SEA. AUGUST 1942.. © IWM (A 11312)IWM Non Commercial Licence

So as you can see it provides all the information you need.
Just copy the code with the relevant image and paste it into your post (SIMPLES!!)

Here is another
http://www.defenceimagery.mod.uk/

Only use images that state
file is available for reuse under the OGL (Open Government License).

You must link to the main website and post a link to the licence with the images
If you used more than one image in your post you would only have to place your credits at the start of your posts

Thanks for the information about the IWM images.
I enjoyed looking through them.I have posted a few of the images that had the BB code but found some that did not have any BB code?
does this mean that those without cannot be used?

Thanks again

Well the IWM state that other images not under the open Government license can be used if "Fair use" applies.

Fair use could be applied here as we are noncommercial and the images are for discussion/eduction purposes only.

I will get clarification from them about the use of other images here but until then lets stick with the images that display a BB code.

thanks

Ok I will use only the ones with "BB code" let me know if that changes

:)
