As to the Ukrainian advance on Kursk:

According to the 'Moscow Times', the Ukrainian HIMARS attack near Rylsk has wiped out an entire battalion; if fully manned, this would be over 400 men. (Source) A 48-year-old Russian civilian was arrested for filming the event, thereby allegedly helping the Ukrainians. (Source)

'Forbes' reports that the Ukrainian advance now includes five brigades, which together hold about 1000 square kilometres. (Source)

'Rybar' (pro-Russian) confirms the reports of 'ISW' from the previous day and reports Russian defence successes, but states that "it is too early to say the tables are turning". The channel also reports an attempt by Ukrainian special forces to land on the Kinburn peninsula near Kherson, adding that their attack was rejected with moderate Ukrainian losses. (Source)

As during the previous days, almost all observations are coming from pro-Russian channels. The Ukrainian intentions are still a matter of speculation, and Kiev is keeping tight-lipped. Mick Ryan's new assessment seems apt: It was premature to announce the "glass battlefield".

One more thing: Russian milbloggers may soon no longer be available as a source of information. Moscow has decree that from 1 November 2014, all social network channels with more than 10,000 subscribers must be registered with the media regulatory authority. Registered channels may only share content from other registered channels or Roskomnadzor will take them down. A registered channel can also be deleted if it is shared by non-registered channels. In other words, Russian influencers, z-bloggers and public figures will only be able to share content from state- or state-approved channels. Especially foreign sources can no longer be cited unless registered. (Source)

Questions: The T-90, T-80 and T-72 tanks have been depleted fighting in Ukraine ...

The T-62 and T-54/55s are burnt through defending the border ...

Are the guns on those T-34s still live firing for the defense of Moscow? 🙃

And does destroying those museum pieces count as destroying cultural heritage?

Any Armchair generals want to tell the russians where they should have parked?

I'd say the chance of a T34 being 'in combat' has gone up by several thousands of %.

I think Laos or someplace returned several dozen operational T-34s about 5 years ago.

I dont know the intentions of Ukraine, but thats one way to get entrenched Russian units in Ukraine out of their position and hit them in the open, as the Russian unit reposition to retake Kursk.

Methinks a Trump candidacy might have pushed the Ukrainians to move so that they have a bargaining chip, come negotiation time.

The Ukrainian army has published footage of the entry of military units into the Kursk region of Russia on August 6. The video shows a battle with a Russian stronghold and shows destroyed Ukrainian equipment and a military medical service vehicle. The Ukrainian army is bringing up reserves, and the Russian army is doing the same. In the video, you can also see the evacuation of a Ukrainian VAB armored personnel carrier in the Kursk region and the evacuation of an International Maxxpro armored vehicle by an M88A2 Hercules repair and recovery vehicle. In some cases, the evacuation is carried out without hindrance. The Ukrainian army has begun to dig in in the Kursk region and is bringing up heavy equipment. According to experts, if the situation does not change within a week, the fighting will turn into a positional war and will drag on for a long time. Against this background, rumors have emerged about the need for a new wave of mobilization in Russia, officials deny its necessity. But according to experts, the 1,500 km long front line, the entry of Ukrainian troops into the Kursk region and the threat to the Bryansk region indicate that there is a shortage of 700,000 personnel, especially units with drones.
