The video was shot on Sunday – it was snowing the whole night before. The atmosphere in the morning was unbelievable. Many friendly reenactors, vehicle parades, and there was also a military surplus sale at the Bastogne Barracks. Let me tell you that we ain´t goin´ to any vacation any time soon after that. I love my spouse. I was pampered our entire stay.
We also visited St. Vith, Foy, Baraque du Fraiture, Recogne, Bois Jacques, La Roche, La Roche is beautiful, and we had barbeque with the family members of the paratroopers from the 101th at the 101st Airborne museum in Bastogne – which is a must see btw.
Personally, visiting Foy and Bois Jacques was my highlight. I wanted to go there since I watched BOB. Being there was just... It was in the morning, just after sunrise. When you pass the memorial, it´s a solemn feeling. Rows of trees. A quiet place. The foxholes are in the line of sight from Foy. It was 2 days after the snow storm, it got warmer and the snow was mostly gone. Nevertheless, the crimson and auburn foliage was beautiful. It made me realize how much I missed hiking.
Well, my personal feelings aside, I know that veterans don´t like visiting this place because it´s not the same forest anymore. It was cut down and replaced with an even-aged mono-culture plantation used as a renewable fuel source.
