The Mowj-class (also spelled Moudge-class) is an Iranian-built medium-sized warship, often referred to by Iran as a destroyer, but in reality, it fits the international category of a light frigate.

Basic specifications:
• Length: ~94 m
• Displacement: 1,300–1,500 tons
• Speed: ~30 knots
• Crew: 120–140 personnel

Armament:
• 76 mm Fajr-27 naval gun (based on the Italian OTO Melara).
• 40 mm and 20 mm secondary guns.
• 4 × Noor or Qader anti-ship missiles.
• Mehrab medium-range SAMs (Iranian copy of the SM-1).
• 324 mm torpedo tubes.
• Small helicopter deck.

Ships of the class: Jamaran (2010), Damavand (2015 – later lost in 2018), Dena (2021), and Deylaman (2023), with additional
• A major achievement for Iran’s domestic shipbuilding industry, giving it credible coastal defense, escort, and patrol capabilities.
• However, its sensors, air-defense systems, and electronic warfare technology remain limited compared to modern Western or Asian frigates.
In short: a symbol of Iran’s growing self-reliance, but combat capability is moderate—closer to a light frigate than a true destroyer.
