USS Chicago CG-11

Love these type of ships, converted cruisers, there is a kind of Frankenstein 's appeal to them 😋
Me too. Something interesting about them. The USS Chicago and it's sisters were converted WW2 cruisers where the entire superstructure was replaced to make the guided missile cruisers. FYI, I have touched it's anchor, it's on display at the end of Navy Pier in Chicago.

I'm in that first image! ;)
The other warships alongside in Garden Island, Sydney are Tide class tanker HMAS Supply (0195), Daring class destroyer HMAS Duchess (D154), River class (Type 12M) frigate HMAS Stuart (DE48) "The Tartan Terror". Behind HMAS Supply is another River class frigate and a Perth class (Charles F Adams) destroyer which I'm certain was my ship HMAS Brisbane (DDG41) "The Steel Cat"

Pre-wetting was a method of protecting warships against radioactive particles while operating in the "fall out" area, the outer fringe of the region affected by an underwater atomic explosion. It involves the continual washing of the surface area of the ship during and after contamination as experiments showed that fission matter was less likely to adhere to a surface as it is being subjected to salt water washdown
