Her name was originally to be ‘Persian’ however it was changed before completion. Wallaroo was to sent to Australia to become part of the Auxiliary Squadron of the Australia Station. On arrival to Sydney on September 5th 1891 Wallaroo was placed in reserve where she remained until May 9th 1894. In 1900 Wallaroo was sent to serve in China during the Boxer Rebellion. Being deemed as obsolete Wallaroo left the Australia Station on January 11th 1906.

On her return to the UK Wallaroo was attached to HMS Indus as a training ship for mechanics at Devonport. In 1914 she became a guard ship at Chatham. She was then stationed off Brightlingsea, Essex, as the base ship for the boom and net-protected Swin Anchorage, returning to Chatham in 1916.

In March 1919 she was renamed HMS Wallington, however prior to being sold for scrapping in 1920 her name was changed back to Wallaroo.

Soviet aircraft carrier Ulyanovsk, PR 1143.7, as she was supposed to be.

She was laid down in the Black Sea Shipyard in November 1988.

By 1991 she was reportedly "finished" at 40%, and scrapped in 1992.

One will note the naval versions of the Su S37/47, of the Su34, and the Yak-44 twin-turboprop AEWs.
