The light carrier HMS Illustrious (R06) moored in a flooded dry dock next to the giant HMS Queen Elizabeth (R08) on her christening day in Rosyth on July 17, 2014.

This was Illustrious' last duty before being decommissioned in Portsmouth on August 28, 2014. She retired as the longest-serving aircraft carrier in RN history at 32 years. No bad for a design that was meant for 20 to 25 years of service.

Illustrious was 690ft long compared to QE at 932ft and a 106ft beam compared to QE at 240ft. Displacement was 22,000 tons to 65,000 tons in favour of QE.
