21st Aug 1958. USS Enterprise (CV-6) made her final voyage as she moved from the Brooklyn Navy Yard to the scrapper in New Jersey. ADM William Halsey led an effort to preserve the Big E as a museum but the campaign was unable to raise enough funds to save the carrier
