Submarine "S-49" is a Romeo-class submarine commissioned in 1961. During the early 1970s, two Romeo submarines (including "S-49") underwent major modifications, with the addition of the prominent 650mm tubes to test an Anti-Submarine Warfare missile system. "S-49" was decommissioned in 1995, and is scheduled to be towed to Balaclava (Crimea) to become a museum ship.
