It’s believed that the maiden voyage was primarily meant to test the carrier’s conventional oil-fueled steam turbine power plant and other communication, navigation and steering systems.

The new flattop will cast off for more sea trials in the coming months as the Chinese navy expects to receive it by the end of the year for installation of weapons and air complement.

State media have played down the first sailing of the carrier on May 13, just one year and two weeks after it was launched.

In April China conducted a Naval parade. Here's a Chinese made video of the event. They really know how to put on a show. Check out those sailors coming on the flight deck.

Thanks popeye, never seen Chinese Navy night ops before. As a joke, I wonder if USN flight deck crews started wearing checkered pants and blue Converse high top shoes, if we would see Chinese crews dressed that way within a month?

All joking aside the Chinese copied the USN flight deck procedures because the USN is the best at operating a aircraft carrier. why not learn from the best? the French and the British, Italians, Aussies & Spanish use the same colors and procedures also.

ps..Yes I know that the Royal Navy Ark Royal was the first aircraft carrier.

Both of China's carriers are in Dalian China shipyard where they were built/refit. These photos are dated May 27th, 2018. CV-17 is in drydock after her shakedown cruise.

The ships in the background are not cruise ships. They are "barracks ships" that house the crews of the carriers when they are in their homeport. Trust me..they are very well appointed.
