Mexican Navy training ship collides with Brooklyn Bridge in New York.

There were 277 people on board the ARM Cuauhtémoc (BE01).

So far, 2 dead and 22 injured, half of the injured in critical condition. According to initial information, all victims were on the vessel.

The ship, used for training naval cadets, was maneuvering to undock. There was a blackout and the engine got stuck in reverse, causing the ship to go in the opposite direction planned.

A tugboat, which can be seen nearby at the beginning of the video, did not have a cable attached and was therefore unable to help.

There is a failure here, The tug should have been secured in the bow area of the vessel to prevent just such an issue occurring. It's not unknown or rare for vessels especially as old as this one with only a small engine plant for manoeuvring to lose power. NYC is renowned for having a treacherous cross current especially on the flood which it was in this instance.

That someone has decided not to use the service of the tug is tragic in this case. All normal naval advise would have been to have the tug "buttoned on" and not need it than to not have it secured at all....I simply don't understand the logic behind the navigating team decision to go it alone.

the tug cast off from the ship prior to it smacking into the bridge.

I understand mate however it should not have been let go. The tide was on the flood and is treacherous there. The vessel has only a small engine plant being a STS.....in any navy this was a screwup that has cost lives

Sal reviews the preliminary NTSB report. No conclusions yet, mostly a timeline.

Sal corrects an omission he made earlier. There were two local pilots aboard, not one. A docking/harbor pilot and a sea pilot. Two different people, which is proper for what they were doing.
