Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has posted a mocking reaction to Donald Trump's announcement that America will impose a charge on cargo passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

"POTUS is absolutely right," he says on X. "Whoever provides secure and safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz should be compensated for this service."

"Iran has always been the GUARDIAN of the Strait and will remain so FOREVER," Araghchi says.

"20% is of course too much. We will be fair," he adds.

Perhaps Trump genuinely believed giving dialogue a chance was worth a try.

Discussion with Iran was expected to end in a failure, but we are never safe from a surprise and even there is 90% risk for things to turn a certain way, it also means there is 10% chance they can turn another.

So, wether he believed in that 10% or not, he apparently believed it was a worth a try.

That being said and out of the way, if anything, now he knows Iran can't be reasoned with and hopefully he will take the appropriate approach.

The targets were located at the Bandar Abbas naval base and Corsair drones were used.

Corsair's are a very useful asset thus far. One picked up the downed pilots a while ago and now they have shown their war face. Go Navy!

Such systems might find themselves relevant and useful against a more "advanced" foe or, to put it another way, against an opponent that retains significant detection and countermeasure systems such as China for instance.

In that situation however, there are not much difference with instances seen in the war in Ukraine and the numerous USV strikes carried out in Sevastopol, Kerch, Feodosia, Novorossiysk, etc...
Sure, they can be spotted visually, but they remain relatively difficult to pick up on radar. So, we have small size, relatively high-speed, good maneuverability, hard to lock on and a decent/above average payload.

From what I have been told, AK630 aren't used due to the inability to detect the targets early enough and thus conflicting with the maximum depression of the gun.
That and the fact Russian ships are, now, mostly stationed at port and firing the AK630 at minimum range would risk having a bunch of 30mm shells bouncing off the water and flying into things they would rather not want to hit (other ships, buildings, residential housings, etc...)
