A buddy of mine has asked me to help him find information about the Highland Infantry, 51st Division who landed on sword beach on D Day. I have found little snippets of information such as at 0600 6th June 1944 The Highland Inf transfered to Landing craft to assault sword beach and that during Operation Overlord, the 15,000 members of the 51st Highland Division, who fought their way on to Sword Beach, represented 25 per cent of British forces.

Anymore information links and pics etc would be greatly appreciated. Also any information about where the regimental museum/archives will be now. I do have his army number but not with me at the time of writing.

Highland Division Museums:

Seaforths/Camerons (Also London/Liverpool Scottish/Canadian/Australian/NZ/SA Highlanders) - http://www.cabarfeidh.com/Regimental Museum.htm - Fort George, Inverness

Gordons - http://www.gordonhighlanders.com/ - Aberdeen

Black Watch - http://www.theblackwatch.co.uk/museum/index.html - Perth

The Argylls - http://www.army.mod.uk/argylls/museum.htm - Stirling Castle

Those are the principle Regiments that I am aware of, other Scots Regimental museums are as follows Royal Scots (Edinburgh Castle), RHF (518 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow), KOSB (Berwick on Tweed), Royal Scots Greys (Edinburgh Castle). There is also the Scottish War Museum (Edinburgh Castle) and The Scottish National War Memorial (Edinburgh Castle)

For actual service records/medal rolls of individual soldiers, you would need to refer to the PRO at Kew, individual regiments do not hold much on the men themselves unless commissioned.

BTW - I'm probably going to visit the Gordons Mus. on Thursday (10th) as I have to take my wife to Aberdeen. I will probably be visiting the Black Watch mus. on 10th July - and maybe the Edinburgh Castle ones and even Stirling castle that same w/e - if you were looking for specific info.
