Intro Help wanted

Good morning
I am looking for a little help so my grandfather was in the UDR and I would like to find more information on his position, et cetera and possibly service records
My grandfather’s name was John Workman and I do have a medal of his
But I have no idea of where to start
Could anybody please point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated

You could try this:

Get a copy of military records of service

Get military records of service for the Royal Navy (including Royal Marines), British Army and Royal Air Force - who can apply, how long it takes, cost, how to apply.

also ancestry.com says it has british military records.

I believe his and many others from the period service records will not be publicly available for many years too come due to security concerns still people out their with grudges and axes to grind. Its understandable its a relatively recent conflict.

To obtain Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR) service records, you must submit a formal application to the Ministry of Defence (MOD). Because the UDR was an infantry regiment of the British Army, the process depends on whether the veteran is living or deceased, and whether you are the veteran or their next of kin.
