<-- Is now officially qualified and licensed to own a firearm! m_gun;

Just though I'd share and get some advice in the process. I've got both a self defense and a recreational permit for anything up to a 12.7mm (.50 cal) rifle.

So what is a good semi-automatic rifle for hunting, skeet and target shooting? I'm looking into something from the FN-FAL series.

Keep Honking... I'm Reloading!!

gsling2;Just out of curiosity, what country do you reside in? In the United States, we don't need a permit to buy a gun. We do need one for concealed carry, which I have. I carry two different guns, depending on the activity. Indoors- a Taurus Model 85 .38 Special 5 shot +P revolver w/ 2" barrel. Outdoors- a Taurus Model 444 UltraLight Titanium .44 Magnum 6 shot +P revolver w/ 4" barrel, on a Raging Bull frame. gsling;

South Africa. And here you just need a permit to show you're compitent enough to use it and than a license for the gun itself. Like a drivers license and registration, only an infinite factor more usefull and fun. :cool:

Update:

For my self defense sidearm I got myself a Heckler & Koch Mark 23 with a recoil compensator barrel attachment.

And for my sports rifle I've tracked down this beautifully rebuilt Dragunov SVD.

The stock and hand guard have been remade from this Acacia hardwood and it's been re-chambered to use a more common 7.62x39mm rounds. The gunsmith also had the regular scope mounting replaced with a rail mount and some other changes. This thing is a work of art. I'll be spending more time looking at it than shooting it.

I'm just waiting on some legal issues before I can get it. Apparently it was supposed to be destroyed in a munitions dump in Mozambique
