For the first time ever, the German Guard Battalion exercised the defence of Berlin last night. The focus lay on fighting underground, using the German capital's underground network.

In contrast to what the designation suggests, the battalion is actually a regiment with nine companies. Apart from its more familiar duties as a honour guard for diplomatic guests, the formation is also tasked with the defence of key government sites.
