The Bundeswehr will receive pistols from Česká zbrojovka (CZ) as part of the P13 (Pistole querschnittlich) program. This information was reported by the German specialist portal Hartpunkt, citing well-informed sources. The Czech company beat the Slovenian Arex and the Austrian Glock in the final round.
The P13 project is an effort by the Bundeswehr to replace the current P8 service pistol (a modification of the Heckler & Koch USP) with a new standard weapon in 9×19 mm caliber, intended for all branches of the armed forces. The pistols will receive the catalog designation P13 after they are officially included in the arsenal.
The Bundeswehr plans to conclude a framework contract with Česká zbrojovka for up to 186,000 pistols, of which approximately 62,000 pieces are to be the subject of a firm order. Details about the specific model have not yet been published, but it will probably be a variant of the CZ P-10 (including a shortened version of the P-10C), or a CZ P-09, or a customized model. According to well-informed sources, as reported by Hartpunkt, this contract includes not only the supply of pistols, but also corresponding holsters.
* Speech in the background: Gentlemen! You are the guardians of the oldest traditions of the Alpine troops, still mobilizing on our noble and trusty mules...
Comments in the line:
* You didn't bring the trucks to take us, did you?
* Unless you want to go clinging to one of the Tigre's hard points, you'll have to ride on muleback!
