It makes me sad though to see that our SF operator is still using the MC1-1C when he should be using better, safer chutes by now. same with the steerable ones for Helo. I really hope they've adressed that issue during the congressional visit. The US representatives arrived explicitly to see how to assist and help out with those little things. General equipment wise some upgrades would also not hurt, seeing how they use outdated stuff in most their exercises. These guys are too modest and proud to complain about anything plus they are not the type to brag with fancy toys, they just train their a.... off 24/7 to get the job done whenever and wherever required. Hope at least their commander adresses those shortcomings or the US representatives recognize them. mil-smile08

The Ranger SOG - Special Operations Forces. Not to be confused with the Mountain Recon Battalion ( Special Mountain Battalion ) which requires only the initial Ranger qualification. This is a seperate higher tier detachment.
Currently one of the most elite and demanding units in the entire region and possibly Europe. Not only modeled after their US counterpart but also closely observed, instructed and monitored by US SOCOM - which is virtualy the big brother. Most from the first Georgian SF cadres got their education, training and qualification in the United States. But in contrast to the US Army Rangers there is an additional SF course to qualify for SF School hence the close SOCOM monitoring. You don't become either SF OR Ranger like in the US. The Ranger tab and SOF qualification are requirements for SF. Yes, that means to be even able to apply for SF qualification course the candidate first has to complete every single Ranger School, the initial ( aka standart Ranger School ) and the SF Ranger course. Only if you pass all applications, the Ranger Course and the SF Ranger Course + some additional specialization courses, such as paratrooper, recon, diving, survival etc seperate to the Schools themselves successfully, you may be accepted for SF School <- given the SF don't denie you because your persona and character simply doesn't fit in. But usualy intelligence tests, the psychological pressure, interviews etc during the Ranger courses already weed people out very carefuly and efficiently. The initial Ranger course usualy has a drop out rate of 60%. Less than 10% from the next higher stage - the SF Ranger course pass the SF School. Which is why you are sill highly respected if you are member of the Rangers SOG. It is the main support force for the SF teams that would operate behind enemy lines and in general, also be the quick reserve or replenishment / in worst case replacement, in case said SF team got compromised and destroyed. Which is why the SF Ranger School incorporates many aspects and training methods from the SF School.

Pictures of GSOF from joint SF exercise "Kobra 17" in Poland. The exercise culminated in a special operations manouver that was lead by a 12 man team of the Georgian SOF. Events like these aim to qualify and certify GSOF operators for NATO lead missions. GSOF is tasked by US SOCOM to train and assist conventional military forces of the Alliance for international missions and if required take the lead. Members of the Georgian SOF been training and qualifying the last two years with Poland's JW GROM and AGAT which are described by GSOF as great partners and friends.

I really wonder why they are wearing MARPAT.

I really wonder why they are wearing MARPAT.

I actualy find it quite refreshing seeing how almost everyone is wearing multicam and marpat still looks good.

What I wonder is why they don't repalce their old PASGT helmets with Delta's new bullet proof tactical helmets. Same with the vests. Guess it's out of pure habit.
