Photos Counter Terror and Special Mission / Operations Units

Christ. I look at the last pic again. This is a UTG red dot that cost $30 USD. Grrrrrrrrrreat. Top of the line unit. Lost for words again.

The main and the best CT/SMU unit of our country (Mexico) is the Mexican Army Special Reaction Force (FER/Fuerza Especial de Reaccion).

The unit was created in the mid 1980s (two years before of the 1986 FIFA wolrd cup) and was developed with help of French GIGN senior personnel, then in the next years the unit started to receive training of the US Army Special Forces and Delta Force. At some point FER received specialized training by CIA NCS officers. With the start of the Mexican War on Drugs the unit has deployed several times to hit Cartel HVTs. FER traing regularly with the US Army Special Forces but as well with JSOC units like Delta Force and DEVGRU.

The unit has around 250-350 active duty operators, most of FER operators are assaulters but the unit have recce/recon trained assets for HUMINT missions. FER CFO "Curso de Formación de Operadores" (Operator Training Course) is about 6 months and is only open for Mexican Army SOF personnel, one buddy who is a Senior Sniper Instructor for the Mexican Army Special Operations Command tried for this unit and failed two times so you can get an idea of how difficult is become a FER operator. FER is not the first name of this unit, the unit has changed his name different times, the first name of the unit was FERIAM (High Command Quick Reaction Special Force) 1984-1989, then was called as GAFE del Alto Mando (High Command Airmobile Special Forces Group) 1989-2004, then was called FEAM (High Command Special Force) 2004-2011 and now is FER since 2011.

Very interesting, especially seeing their tactical unit wearing camo.

OK and now I continue my series on the dire state of equipment of the Ukrainian Special Forces. Pic#1, so Ukraine bought a bunch of former Yugoslavia / Serbian-made M57 60mm mortars. These were issued to 3rd and 8th Special Forces regiments. Of course, nobody in the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense could have predicted that these things would have to be carried on foot, frequently behind enemy lines. Well, one volunteer stepped in and commissioned a couple of back packs to carry this weapon, but there are still no backpacks to carry ammo for mortars. No funds / approval to buy rubber dinghy, once again purchased through crowdfunding.
