I'm a bit of a Civil War buff...I have 2 good books that I've read and they go in succession with eachother. They also happened to be written by a father and son. The 2 books that I am referring to are Gods and Generals and The Killer Angels. The Killer Angels was written by Michael Shaara (father) and Gods and Generals was written by Jeff Shaara (son). I really enjoyed these books. But, if your not into the Civil War they would probably be very dry reading for you. I also enjoyed the movie that was made of Gods and Generals.
