However, I wonder if Force Design 2030 and USMC dropping tanks may ultimately influence the end product.

It takes a lot to push a tank forward and support it properly, especially in the littoral.

The USMC made a bold break from the past in deciding to project mass other than tanks.

It doesn’t take much to kill a tank from safety/distance anymore.

I reckon if the 2022 Aussie M1 fleet purchase was pushed back 12-18 months it may not have happened at all, at least in terms of the maths around projecting and sustaining mass on a contested piece of dirt across contested water.

Lots of problems to solve. It’s going to be very interesting and far from boring,

If there was a Polymarket to bet between Mogami and Type 31, I’d be betting Mogami.

My understanding is that the Japanese make quite well regarded ships.

They make a quality product, on time or earlier and on or under budget 😉
