Bernie Smith, he was in recon platoon 5RAR, returned to Viet Nam with 5RAR on their second tour as a Platoon Sergeant and was accidentally killed.

The link cover was made out of the inflatable inserts for the stretcher cover. Allegedly the only thing they were good for, as they made for a S**t mattress. Yet the Quartermasters still wanted the inserts returned when it was time to hand all your kit back in, and saying you used it to keep your link tidy in the J wasn't often accepted as a valid excuse...

I'm pretty much scanning through to see if any of the names are familiar. A lot of those old boys are on facebook, and they're active on the Regiment pages.
I've got a friend and her Dad was in one of the Kiwi Victor/Whiskey ANZAC Companies, I've been trying to spot him in the kiwi pics you've been posting. She'd be pretty thrilled to see a pic of him.

PHUOC TUY PROVINCE, SOUTH VIETNAM. 1970-03. A 105 mm artillery round rips through the night on its way to the enemy. The howitzer, from the 101st battery, Royal Australian Artillery, was firing and support of 6 RAR/NZ (ANZAC). The ANZAC battalion comprised of 6 RAR and a component from the 1st Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, which was operating from its Forward Fire Base, Peggy. (AWM)

Mortarmen of the 6RAR /NZ (ANZAC) (The ANZAC Battalion comprising 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment and a component from the 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment), duck the muzzle blast of their 81mm mortar during night firing at Fire Support Base Peggy. The mortar was firing in support of the battalion's troops who clashed with the Viet Cong while patrolling from Peggy. Today we pause to remember the life and service of 3790094 Private Noel Charles Pettitt, of Mildura Victoria who was killed in action following a mine explosion on the 27th of November 1967 whilst serving in South Vietnam.
Noel was called up for National Service on September 28, 1966 and was a labourer at the time. Noel was posted to 2RAR as a rifleman and deployed with the Battalion to Vietnam in 1967. He was mortally wounded when a mine exploded on the 27th of November 1967, and died of his wounds the same day in 8th Field Ambulance Hospital Vung Tau, South Vietnam.
He was 21 at the time of his death.
Lest we forget.

Shoalwater Bay, Qld. September 1968. Sergeant (Sgt) John Carter of Benalla, Vic, an M113 armoured personnel carrier (APC) crew commander with B Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, Royal Australian Armoured Corps (RAAC), supporting the 9th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (9RAR), in Exercise Riflebird at Shoalwater Bay. Sgt Carter was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) for the role he played in bringing relief to the famous Delta Company of 6RAR at the battle of Long Tan in Vietnam in 1966.

Private Brian Wood of Toowoomba, Qld, carrying an M60 machine gun, was among soldiers of the 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR), who decimated and pursued the Viet Cong after a bitter battle at Long Tan, in Phuoc Tuy Province, part of Operation Smithfield. In follow-up sweeps the Diggers discovered graves and signs of a hasty retreat by the large Viet Cong force.
