I expect another Senate vote tomorrow which will peel away a few Dems to pass the continuing resolution. Too bad, because Russ is a really smart guy, and he already knows which Federal agencies and employees need to be eliminated (forever) if the shutdown continues.
Having listened to his entire speech, one more thought: Removing the channels for anonymous complaints is a terrible idea. There's a reason the civil world knows laws protecting whistleblowers; hierarchic organisations, especially those with a high esprit d'corps, often punish those who speak out and criticise their superiors. The "anonymous" part may sound dubious, but valuable insight has been gained through such channels in the past. Cutting them off seems unwise to me.
I understand what your saying, but the pendulum had swung so far that commanders were walking on eggshells as Hegseth described. One anonymous or even unfounded anonymous complaint against an officer accusing them of racism, sexism, anything at all, would follow or ruin their careers. It was changing the way they could lead.
