On this day near Tuy Hoa, Phu Yen Province, SVN, Sgt. Charles Blanco was KIA while serving as a paratrooper in C co, 2/502 PIR, 101st Abn. Div.. He was a squad leader in my platoon. At 25, Sgt. Blanco was an old man compared to most of us. He had served a 4yr. hitch as a Marine before becoming an Army paratrooper. He was a good guy and a good leader. He was killed by small arms fire during a firefight that my platoon was engaged in after making contact as the point platoon. As I recall, Sgt. Blanco had been wounded earlier in the year. He was from Philadelphia, PA.

RIP Sgt. Charles Blanco

Thanks Bill. They're not forgotten if we say their names out loud once in awhile.

Tuy Hoa was a tough spot, Frisco. As you know I was there six months later with both the 4th Inf Div and the Koreans.
