Wow, those gentleman's look old, that is a bit strange.

this is the romanian army
couple a weeks ago I was at MK-airshow 2019 in constanta
there where exposed some helicopters
I talk with the american crew of a Black Hawk, the chief of the crew is 23 y/o and the flight pilot ( a girl)is 26 y/o
then I saw a IAR 330 Puma LSAR , someone told me that the chief of the crew is 45 y/o and for sure you will not see a chief younger than 35
also I have a lot of photos from this airshow , but I not so sure if I will post it

Interesting that they still maintain hippo mobile units, in Colombia there is an army unit that has its horses called "Guides of the Casanare" and dates from the time of Independence, the others that have horses is the National Police in its specialty of Rural Police or Carabineros ; on the other hand, to patrol some Air Force units that have large tracts of land or wooded sites where vehicles or motorcycles cannot access, horses are also available.
I really liked the harness of the horse to carry the weaponry, it is for a machine gun, would you think about the cannon that is attached to one of its sides?

These are Mountain Hunters troops and due to the envorinment they usually act they might use that special breed of horses to transport the mortars (120 mm caliber, and in the past also a type of howitzer gun) as well as various logistic materials and munition. Those horses can go through narrow forest and rock trails transporting all those weapons and materials while motorized vechicles can never go through there. Also the weather in the mountains can be very changing and changelling, with lots of fog, low clouds, rains and snowing, making even the helicopters maneouvers impossible many times. So having some horses to carry all the materials can be a gift, instead of soldiers carrying all sort of heavy stuffs on their backs, or waiting for some ATV or mechanized or air transport to be able to come close enough or move close enough to the required positions.

Also during the summer and autumn times at least horses can just eat the grass around and requires less maintenance while during the winter they can prepare logistic places including food for animals along the mountain trails
