Yana Chervona. Machine gunner from 54th infantry brigade was killed on April 2nd, 2019 by a direct hit on Ukrainian position by Russia's new 152mm guided "Krasnopol" artillery shell. Multiple casualties were reported from that strike with at least one addition KIA. Due to very heavy artillery fire exchange, surviving wounded troops and the bodies were recovered only at 20:00 local time while the position was destroyed at 13:30 local time. Earlier reports that the position was hit by "just" 120mm were proven to be false. Yana leaves behind a husband and two small children.

Geezzzz, sometimes this site can be just too sad...... :( Does the Ukraine govt have/provide decent soldier benefits for a KIA cases??

RIP and God Bless Yana....

Don't think so. The front line soldiers and officers salaries and benefits are VERY DECENT even by richer than Ukraine countries standards. Unfortunately, what comes after is just a black hole. Rehabilitation services, especially mental health are at a very basic level and they run counter to the culture where males are expecting to keep everything inside. Local state officials who are supposed to take care of returning soldiers are usually corrupt, indifferent, and incompetent for the most part. So, it all lies on the shoudlers of concerned private individuals and the returning soldiers themselves. For example, as soon as Yana's body was recovered, collection of funds for her funeral expenses and for child care has begun, a grass roots initiative. Although, in her case given the high publicity, the government most likely won't drop the ball.

Ukraine is in the throes of presidential elections, so nothing else is news over there. Furthermore, unless a miracle will happen, the incumbent Poroshenko is out. However, most likely an investigation will be launched into the state of the first line fortifications. I knew about this yesterday, but now the photo has been made public. Russians knew what to strike, and this position was an obvious target. Furthermore, the use of a guided munition was an overkill. Just look at the shoddy construction. Could barely survive rain.

Rest in Peace Yana Chervona and the other soldiers who have died in that attack.

^I don't know about Georgia, but in Ukraine it looks like a very tiny percentage of population cares what it's going to happen next. The rest seems to be rather infantile and thinks that the Presidential elections is for Head Magician rather than the President.

New uniforms?

No I think the old stuff was pulled from storage for exercises to distinctively mark the opposing sides for foreign observers and advisers. Plus, National guard units were involved as well, and they have their own "khaki" uniform rather than camo one.
