Photos Counter Terror and Special Mission / Operations Units

Thanks for the clarification mate. I've loosely followed the reorganisation of Ukraine's security structure and units post-Euromaidan with interest. Did the Ukrainian military lose some of its members to defection (just like the police's Berkut)?

Hell of a lot! Especially Police and SBU in Crimea. Like in 90% of the servicemen stationed in Crimea. For the armed forces the figure was in 75%-80% percentile. The same goes for security forces stationed in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. However, in continental Ukraine, defections among the military personnel were literally in single digits. No officers defected either. I don't think there were any defections at all in Border Guard units.

Interior Ministry troops which is now National Guard, which was on the opposite site of Maidan protests didn't' experience high rate of defections. The majority even withdrew from Crimea to continue their service in reformed National Guard. I guess, we can see their rewards for loyalty. Also, once again, with an exception of Crimean, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kyiv's units of "Berkut", all the other units of "Berkut" remained loyal to the Ukrainian State and distinguished themselves in combat early in the war.

Thanks for the info. It's very insightful. One interesting thing about this conflict that I noticed was that Interior Troops were under the media spotlight. Usually in any conflicts, it is the military who were the spearhead but in this case, the Ukrainian security forces bore the brunt of the conflict.

Very early on. 75% of the fighting was and is done by the armed forces. But the National Guard and even police units were the ones who bore the brunt of early battles around Karachun mountain, Slavyansk, and Kramotorsk.

After the Manchester (UK) Bomb attack in 2017 the SAS were in town working with our Police raiding target addresses and such like. I didnt have a lot of contact with them but aside from the tragedy of the incident, seeing them around was an exciting time.

I managed to obtain these photos of SAS Malinois dogs, this particular dog has kills to its name as I am told. I have posted this in the news thread at the time but worth duplicating here.

I hope someone writes a book about their contribution to Ukraine's defense during those early days.

Well NATO is training and equipping the Serbian army for quite some time now, and since they signed the IPAP in 2015, they are being prepped for peacekeeping operations. I think consequential cooperation started somewhere around 2011 and they became part of the PFP program in 2006. They don't want to be part of NATO, but they like to benefit from the mutual partnership, which is understandable.
