When Russia deployed the 4 SU-57s to Syria, 4 SU-35s were sent to escort them to the Kheimim airbase in Latakia.
Currently Russia has 8 SU-35s stationed in Syria.

Remember, Soviet Union / Russia lagged far behind the west during the Cold War and the present day in terms of sniper rifles (couldn't make barrels for them). So, yes, even at present anything with a scope is considered a sniper rifle for them. There is no even a term DMR in Russian military.
