N class destroyer HMAS Nizam (G38) in 1944.

On 11 February, 1945 in a position twelve miles off Cape Leeuwin Light and while altering course, the ship struck a freak wave and rolled very heavily, 75 to 80 degrees, to port and 10 ratings were lost overboard. This accident occurred at ten o'clock at night with the wind at nearly gale force. The ship circled for a long period but no sign of any survivor was seen

USS Enterprise (CVN-65), Forrestal-class USS Ranger (CV-61) and Essex-class aircraft carrier USS Oriskany (CV-34) tied up at Alameda circa 1970s. Also present are nuclear-powered modified Leahy-class, USS Bainbridge (CGN-25) and modified Belknap-class USS Truxtun (CGN-35).

Midway Class carrier USS Oriskany (CVA-34) caught fire. Sailors loading a stack of Mk 24 magnesium parachute flares into the flare locker accidentally ignited one flare, then in their panic, threw it into the flare locker and shut the hatch igniting 700 magnesium flares in the space .The fire killed 44 of her officers and men and injured 156 more. 26 Oct 1966

Side note to the photoset above: Dad was a machinists mate on the light carrier, USS Corregidor for a tour. He spoke of watching torpedomen tuning magnetic aerial torpedoes by waving something metallic in front of it to make sure the vanes moved properly. He let on it wasn't a comfortable feeling.
