The First Scout Ranger Regiment was formed on November 25, 1950 under the command of former AFP Vice Chief of Staff and Defense Secretary Rafael M. Ileto.[2] The unit was modelled after two legendary fighting groups, the intelligence gathering American Alamo Scouts and the combat ready US Army Rangers, the unit was created due to a growing need to counter the Hukbalahap guerrillas and its rebellion with a force trained in small unit actions.

The AFP Modernization Program has four Horizons. Currently this is the last year for Horizon 1, and Horizon 2 will start by next year, 2018 until 2020. Under Horizon 2 the AFP are planning to buy MRFs, light tanks, additional Super Tucanos, attack helicopters, and other essential equipment. Big ticket items such as submarines, additional frigates and corvettes, mine sweepers, Main Battle Tanks etc will start by Horizon 3. Hopefully all of these plans will materialize under president Duterte.

Supposedly, Horizon 1 should had begin in 2004, but due to corruption, lack of political will, and ineptitude of the previous admins, the plans were keep on extending and extending until President Aquino decided to modernize the AFP at full blast without delays. Other acquisitions are: 1000+ Korean KIA KM-240 trucks, RPG-7s from Bulgaria and Russia, Force Protection Equipment like new kevlar helmets, body armor, boots, new digital uniform (CAMOPAT), etc, drones, NVGs, sidearms, and recently the Super Tucano. Others i forgot to mention yet.

There are projects too that did not materialize like the Shore Based Anti Ship Missile Sytems (SBSMS), LRPA (Long Range Patrol Aircraft), and the wasted plan to procure two Maestrale class frigates from Italy.

From 4 to 15 Dec, the Philippine Army (PA) and Singapore Army have been participating in an Urban Operations (UO) professional exchange. Conducted by the Infantry Training Institute (ITI) at the Murai Urban Training Facility, it allowed for cross sharing between the two armies on the small unit Tactics, Techniques and Procedures and individual skill sets required to operate in a complex urban operating environment. The exchange culminated in the execution of a Platoon UO Mission earlier today. The interaction between both armies underscores the warm and friendly defence relationship between Singapore and the Philippines. Commander ITI, COL Liew Kok Keong shared, “Both armies gained knowledge and skill-sets from the professional exchange and forged stronger bonds, which will strengthen the cooperation in our counter-terrorism efforts and improve the security of our region ...” #ArmyReadySoldierStrong Check on the album to find out more!
