U-119, a Type XB minelayer on her first patrol, which doubled as transfer from Germany to France. These were massive submarines for WWII at 2,710 tons submerged, necessary for the 30 mine tubes that carried 66 large SMA moored mines, but also had two torpedo tubes and 7 torpedoes internally. These were often used to resupply other submarines like the more well known Type XIVs, and the eight external torpedoes were, according to the manual, “designated for transfer to other boats”. The note on uboat.net reads:

2 Mar 1943: HMCS Assiniboine (Cdr. K.F. Adams, RCN) was damaged by her own depth charges when she tried to attack German U-boat U-119 in the middle of the North Atlantic. She proceeded to Liverpool, U.K. for repairs (arrived there on 7 March) and was out of action for nearly three months.
U-119 survived and radioed back to headquarters.
