USS Saratoga (CV-3) enters San Francisco Bay on December 18th, 1929

Colorado class battleship USS Colorado (BB-45), taken from USCGC Itasca. July 7th, 1937. Just 5 Days after the disappearance of Amelia Earhart. Both ships would be used to conduct searches in the following days south-east of Howland Island - Her intended destination.

On April 23th, 2022. Corvette museum ship Imperial Marinheiro (leadship of her class) had her engine room flooded and listed in the quay of Rio Grande (Rio Grande do Sul state).

In 1945, U-858 was taken over by a U.S. Navy crew.
The German captain had surrendered the sub at sea four days earlier and was then ordered to proceed to Fort Miles, Delaware.
The transfer was watched over by a Sikorsky HNS-I, the first helicopter to enter U.S. military service.

Jervis had a reputation as a lucky ship (in contrast to her sister, Kelly, who seemed to have more than her share of bad luck). Despite a long and active career, in 5½ years of war and 13 major actions, not one of her crew was lost to enemy action, possibly a unique record. An example of her luck might be seen in her action at Anzio in January 1944. Supporting the landing with gunfire, Jervis and her sister ship, Janus, were attacked by enemy aircraft using Henschel Hs 293 glider bombs. Both were hit; Janus’ forward magazine exploded, sinking her with the loss of nearly 160 of her crew; Jervis’ bow was blown off, leaving her to be towed stern-first to safety. Astonishingly, not one of her crew was harmed in this incident, and she was able to rescue over 80 of Janus’ crew.

Italy:
Aircraft carrier Aquila in drydock at Genoa in 1942. She is in the process of having her screws installed. Never completed.

The screws had been taken (Along with the boilers and turbines) from two unfinished Capitani Romani class cruisers (Cornelio Silla & Paolo Emilio). They had a diameter of 4.2m (13.7') and weighed 12 tons. It was calculated that this machinery was good for a speed of 30 knots.

USS Oregon City served for a mere 22 months before being decommissioned in December of 1947. Over the next three decades plans to convert and/or modernize her failed to materialize and she was scrapped in 1973.
