Willis Godfrey SMALLWOOD Ordinary seaman D/JX 284816. HMS Matabele, Royal Navy,
Born 13 July 1910, baptised 14 August 1910 at St Mary the Virgin, Berkeley to William Charles and Eliza Smallwood, of Berrycroft, Berkeley, Gloucestershire
1911 with his parents at Newtown, Sharpness, Gloucestershire.
Husband of Ivy Christine Smallwood, of Central House Sharpness, near Berkeley, Gloucestershire. Gloucestershire.
1939 residing in a row of houses near an entrance to Sharpness Dock, Glos. Occupation, He was and outfitter and ships chandler.
I remember when I was aged about 10 years old a row of one storey wooden buildings beside to the lock, he may have been there.
Killed in action at sea on the 17th January 1942 aged 31.
Commemorated on a family memorial in Berkeley Cemetery, Gloucestershire, also on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Devon.

Willis Godfrey Smallwood of Central House, Sharpness died on or since 19 January 1942 on war service. His effects went to his father, tobacconist.
