In loving memory of my dear brother W. RAWSON aged 18 and was killed in action France July 27th 1916. He was private 240528, 1/5th Battalion died 21st July 1916. Born at Holbeck, Leeds in 1898 to Joe and Agnes Rawson. Baptised on the 7th July 1898 at Christ Church, Leeds, Yorkshire and was living at 20 Kilbon Street, Leeds. In 1901 now living with his parents and siblings at 6 Hinchcliff Cross, Leeds and in 1911 at 44, Sherborne Street, Gloucester City, working as an errand boy aged 13. His mother, Agnes, was granted a war gratuity on the 15th August 1917, revised on the 19th October 1919. His brother Squire, served as private 3579. 1st Northumberland Fusiliers, became a prisoner of war and survived. He died in Gloucester City in 1956 where he was living with his wife Beatrice Victoria May, nee Hawkes. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. On display at the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum. Commercial Rd, Gloucester.
