E. EA. A. 652. William LEYDEN. Private 2015 1st/5th Bn. Royal Scots. Born in Edinburgh. Died of wounds in Malta 9 July 1915. His widow Jessie was granted a war gratuity 7 December 1915 revised 18 July 1919.
Some notes from what remains of his army records.
He joined up as William Leyden on the 6 August 1914 aged 32 years. He was born in 1882 in the Parish of St Cuthbert, Edinburgh. Resided with his wife and family at 32 Grass Market, Edinburgh. Civilian occupation was a vulcanite worker at the North British Rubber Co at Edinburgh. A page which names his family, mother and half siblings all show the surname Hegarty. It was later discovered on another page he used an alias of Hegarty.

E. EA. A. 652. Patrick Joseph O'SULLIVAN. Private 8102 1st Bn Royal Munster Fusiliers. Born 1890 at Queenstown, County Cork, Ireland to Patrick Joseph and Maria Jane O’Sullivan, nee Hodge. Died of wounds in Malta 14 July 1915 aged 25 years of injuries received in action at Gallipoli. His mother and sister Mrs Mary Salmon were granted a war gratuity 18 April 1916. His mother’s gratuity was revised on the 28 August 1919.

E. EA. A. 652. Frederick Thomas WALSH. Private 1579, 12 Australian Infantry. Born at Beechworth, Victoria to Michael John and Elizabeth Walsh, of Brunswick, Victoria, Australia, enlisted at Claremont, Tasmania on the 28th November 1914 aged 21 and 7 months, occupation. Dynamo attendant. His next of kin was his mother Elizabeth of 118 Claucen Street, North Fitzroy, Melbourne, formerly of 91 Weston Street, Brunswick, Victoria was his next of kin and he was brother to Catherine Veronica, Eileen Frances and Ellen Victoria. He embarked from Melbourne for the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on the 2nd February 1915 on H.M.A.T. A46 Clan MacGillivray. He joined his unit at Mudros on the 10th May 1915. Shot and wounded in the pelvis while in action on the 13th July 1915, invalided to Malta on Hospital Ship Gascon. He was admitted into Military Hospital Tigne, Malta on the 18th July 1915 and he died of his wounds on the 22nd July 1915 aged 22.
