William LARGE Private 105352 Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (Eastern Ontario Regiment) Born 2 August 1888 William and Elizabeth Large of Bushcombe Lane Woodmancote, Cleeve Hill, Gloucestershire. Commemorated on a family memorial St Michael and All Angels, Bishop's Cleeve, Gloucestershire. Died 24 October 1921 aged 36. At rest in an unknown location
Notes from his army records
Enlisted aged 29 into the 68 Overseas Battalion 17 November 1915 at India Head, Saskatchewan, Canada previously served with the 5 Gloucestershire Regiment, occupation, farmer. Embarked Halifax 1 May 1916 disembarked at Liverpool 7 May 1916. 6 June embarked for France, taken on strength at Canadian Base Depot 8 June 1916 and joined his unit in the field 9 June 1916.
11 April 1917 received a gunshot wound to right elbow, slight treated at No 2 Australian General Hospital, Wimmereux.
14 April 1917 admitted to East Leeds War Hospital, Harehills Road, Leeds GWS. While in the hospital he complained of a painful left foot, (hammer toe) surgical treatment was required and he was transferred on the 24 May 1917 to Canadian Convalescent Hospital Woodcote Park, Wilmerhatch Lane, Epsom, Surrey
17 May 1917 admitted into Granville Canadian Hospital, Ramsgate hammer toe discharged date not known
31 July 1917 re-admitted to Granville with the same complaint
21 September 1917 he was admitted into ward 32, No 11 Canadian General Hospital, Moore Barracks, Shorncliffe, Kent with tubercle of lung. While a patient he did light domestic duties when he
17 November 1917 admitted into No 5 Canadian General Hospital, Kirkdale suffering from TB
He was transferred to Canadian Hospital Etchinghill, Lyminge, Kent disembarkation (invalided) to 28 November 1917 Inhaled to Canada 19 November 1917 on a hospital ship Araguaya
9 December 1917 admitted into H Unit M.H.C.C. (Military Hospitals Commission Command) Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada 11 January 1918 transferred for treatment to Earl Grey Sanitorium. He was medically discharged 10 August 1918 at Regina for sanatorium treatment He served in France for eight months.

Thanks for the rest of the story BravoZulu.
Always find myself wondering about the people, and how they lived, when reading their tombstones.
My first thought that he was WIA at Saskatchewan while still serving, dying later of his wounds (fire drill accident or car crash).
So he was WIA at Vimy Ridge, the poor lad carried on for a few years of pain before passing away. Rest in Peace soldier.
